Wellbeing

In 1946 the World Health Organisation (WHO) defined health as "a state of complete physical, mental and social wellbeing." Good mental health matters because it is fundamental to our sense of wellbeing. Without it, it's harder to stay healthy and to live as long and as well as we can. At Sakura we strongly promote all aspects of living and take a holistic approach to an individual's health, encompassing all aspects to promote greater wellbeing.

Sleep & Relaxation

These are as fundamental to your health as exercise and nutrition.  When you have enough sleep you should feel fresh and ready to focus on the day ahead.

Children need sleep to recover from the challenges of today and gain strength for tomorrows.  Sleep is also vital to children’s growth and development.

Below are just some of the benefits of rest & relaxation:

  • It restores/refreshes us when tired
  • Rest repairs the body
  • Rest gives more energy
  • Relaxation gives better sleep
  • Rest enhances your immunity
  • Rest helps increase concentration
  • Rest gives better problem-solving abilities
  • Rest and relaxation gives greater efficiency
  • Rest and relaxation improve overall mood
  • Relaxation and sleep gives the heart a rest
  • Rest increases blood flow to the muscles
  • Rest decreases muscle tension

It is recommended that children between the ages of 5 and 12 should have an average of 8-10 hours of sleep a night.

The effects of poor sleep are extensive; tiredness, poor concentration, impaired thinking, poor memory recall, lack of alertness and poor mood.

Nutrition & Hydration

Your body works right when it has the right fuel to power it and the right exercise and lifestyle to maintain it.  Nothing is more important than healthy eating to let your body achieve its full power, performance and potential.

Friendship & Community

Friends are like family and the community that we encourage at Sakura is one in which we support each other when we are in need and celebrate in each others successes.

Great friendships are about appreciating our similarities and most importantly, respecting our differences.

Feeling accepted is an integral characteristic for a child’s social and emotional development, feeling like you are part of a group.  At Sakura, we are all friends; we share the same values and share the same interests in our health & fitness.  We live our lives independent of each other, but we come together to share in our development.

Sakura Health & Fitness strives to champion health and fitness in its local community, to not only improve the physical health of those in that community but also Improving wider social skills, confidence & self‐esteem and in turn, providing a positive impact of the lives of those children living in Wales.
